What is AMSIO International? AMSIO stands for the Alliance for International Mathematics, Science and Computational Intelligence Olympiad. It is an international academic competition system designed for students from Grade 1 to Grade 12+, with content developed to assess learners’ thinking abilities and their capacity to apply knowledge in a competitive global academic environment. AMSIO goes beyond simply organizing competitions or awarding prizes to high-achieving participants. It is positioned as an international academic platform and a global education community where schools, educational organizations, teachers, and students participate in a shared network focused on academic collaboration and sustainable talent development. Entering a new phase of growth, AMSIO International officially launches its first global cycle in 2026, building on a competition framework developed and refined since 2018. The 2026–2027 season continues to expand its National Partner network and designs a student journey that progresses from national qualification rounds to international-level competitions, creating a continuous and globally connected academic pathway.
Scale of the AMSIO System AMSIO currently connects an academic community spanning more than 20 countries across 5 continents. This creates an environment where students are not limited to competing within their classroom or country, but are placed in a broader context where their abilities are evaluated in a more international, diverse, and equitable framework. Within this system, AMSIO develops four main subject groups, each representing a different approach to thinking: Mathematics: helps students develop logical reasoning, data analysis skills, algebra, geometry, and probability, building a strong foundation for structured thinking. Science: expands understanding of the natural world through physics, chemistry, biology, and Earth science, encouraging observation and explanation of real-world phenomena. Language: goes beyond grammar and vocabulary, focusing on deep reading comprehension, text analysis, and critical thinking when engaging with information.
Computational Intelligence: focuses on modern technological thinking such as algorithms, programming, AI, and data processing, helping students adapt to digital-age reasoning. Mathematics, Science, and Language are designed for students from Grade 1 to Grade 12, while Computational Intelligence starts from Grade 3 and extends to Grade 12+, aligning with age-appropriate development in computational thinking. A 3-Round Pathway from Local to Global
A key feature of AMSIO is its competition journey structured into three progressively challenging and expanding rounds: Round 1 – State Qualifier/State Round: the initial round for all registered participants, expected to take place in December 2026. It may be conducted either in-person or online depending on each country’s implementation. Round 2 – National Finals/National Round: the national-level round, expected in March 2027. According to the Handbook, students who meet the qualification criteria from Round 1 advance to compete at the national level. Round 3 – Global Round/International Final Round: the international round, expected in June 2027 in the United States within the 2026–2027 cycle, bringing together outstanding students nominated from national rounds. With this structure, AMSIO is not a standalone one-day competition, but a developmental academic journey from national participation to international academic engagement.
Vision and Mission of AMSIO International
-
Vision AMSIO’s vision is to build a globally respected academic assessment ecosystem, thereby expanding access to education, improving academic quality, and supporting the holistic development of learners across diverse education systems. This demonstrates that AMSIO is not merely focused on increasing the number of participating countries or students. Its long-term value lies in establishing a shared reference framework that allows students and schools to better understand academic performance within an international context.
-
Mission AMSIO’s mission is to collaborate with educational organizations and stakeholders worldwide to develop globally competent learners through inclusive, challenging, and accessible competitions, while promoting thinking, creativity, and holistic development. Rather than focusing solely on memorization, AMSIO emphasizes six core competencies: Critical Thinking, Logical Thinking, Problem-Solving, Creativity, Knowledge Application, and Technological Competence. This is also why AMSIO is positioned differently from “competition-for-awards” models. Medals and certificates recognize outcomes, but the more important value lies in the process of challenging one’s thinking limits and gaining deeper self-awareness of personal abilities.
Core Entities in the AMSIO Educational Ecosystem To operate a multi-country academic competition system, AMSIO is built on collaboration between the organizing body, academic partners, and a network of educational organizations. AMSIO International – System Organizer and Coordinator AMSIO International serves as the governing and organizing body of the system. According to its published structure, it is responsible for strategic direction, governance, competition standards, Subject Committees, and coordination with National Partners in each country.
This governance structure ensures consistency in standards across different education systems. This is essential for an international platform, as expansion is only meaningful when academic quality and assessment principles are maintained. ABC Education Group – Academic Sponsorship Partner ABC Education Group serves as the Academic Sponsorship Partner of AMSIO, supporting academic direction, development, review, and validation of exam content and assessment frameworks. This contribution helps ensure fairness, rigor, and alignment with international education standards across the competition system. Headquartered in Boston, USA, ABC Education Group operates in the education sector across multiple countries. Within the AMSIO ecosystem, it focuses on academic expertise support, complementing the governance and operational structure of AMSIO International.
Polaris Global Academy – Assessment Unit Supporting Evaluation Quality Polaris Global Academy participates as an Assessment Unit, contributing expertise from Advanced Placement and U.S. high school education systems to the development, validation, and refinement of assessment frameworks, exam content, and evaluation criteria. The collaboration between AMSIO International, ABC Education Group, and Polaris Global Academy helps establish a system where governance, academic development, and assessment quality are clearly defined and balanced. Distinctive Value of AMSIO
More Than a “Competition for Awards” One of AMSIO’s key directions is shifting the focus from pure achievement to meaningful academic experience. AMSIO assessments are designed to measure thinking rather than memory, emphasizing reasoning over rote learning. This is especially evident in Mathematics, Science, and Computational Intelligence, where students must apply logic, analyze data, use algorithmic thinking, and solve unfamiliar problems. Therefore, medals are not the only value students gain. Participation also helps them identify strengths, recognize skill gaps, and develop a proactive mindset toward academic challenges.
A Cross-Border Network of Schools and Educational Organizations AMSIO is designed to become a connection point between schools, educators, and students across multiple countries. The Handbook describes AMSIO’s Global Network as an environment where participants from five continents collaborate to enhance academic quality. For schools, joining such a network not only provides additional opportunities for students but also enables: Benchmarking student performance against broader international standards Identifying and recognizing high-potential students Joining a network of academically focused schools Expanding opportunities for educational collaboration Providing students with early exposure to international competition environments According to the Handbook, AMSIO also highlights “joining a global network of excellence-focused schools” as a key value for participating institutions. A Global Student Community For students, AMSIO’s value becomes most evident at the international level. The International Final Round includes not only academic competitions but also cultural exchange, STEM workshops, campus & city tours, and a Gala Awards Ceremony. This expands the experience beyond the exam room into cultural interaction, academic exploration, and global peer networking. Such experiences help students develop a broader worldview, improve adaptability in multicultural environments, and gradually build essential global citizenship competencies. Opportunities to Collaborate with AMSIO International A global education ecosystem can only grow sustainably with the participation of educational organizations, schools, teachers, parents, and students. For Schools and Educational Organizations AMSIO develops a National Partner model in each country to coordinate implementation and deliver the competition under a unified system. National Partners are responsible for building school networks, organizing Round 1 and Round 2 according to AMSIO procedures, managing participants, and coordinating national delegations for the Global Round. For schools, AMSIO provides an opportunity to bring an international academic competition closer to students while gradually connecting institutions to a global education network. AMSIO focuses on building relationships with National Partners, Regional Partners, School Partners, and Educational Organizations, with the early-stage goal not only of recruitment but also of establishing credibility, trust, and long-term collaboration networks.
For Parents and Students AMSIO is open to students from various educational backgrounds, including public schools, private schools, international schools, homeschooling, and transnational academic programs. The Handbook also states that prior Olympiad experience is not required to participate. Depending on the subject and grade level, students can choose one or more areas aligned with their strengths and begin their journey from Round 1, progressing toward National Finals and potentially the Global Round. More importantly, AMSIO provides a pathway that allows parents to evaluate participation not only through the question “What award did my child achieve?”, but through more meaningful long-term questions: What are my child’s strengths? What skills need further development? How far can my child go when measured against an international academic benchmark?
Conclusion AMSIO International aims to go beyond a single competition: it seeks to build an environment where academic abilities are challenged, talents are discovered, and new educational connections are formed on a global scale. With four subject groups, a three-round pathway, a system designed for students from Grade 1 to Grade 12+, and a strong focus on connecting schools, educational organizations, and students across countries, AMSIO is building a journey where each competition can become a starting point for long-term academic growth and global integration. Schools and educational organizations interested in becoming AMSIO International partners are invited to explore collaboration opportunities with the AMSIO team.
