Understand how AMSIO works, what to expect, and how your child's achievement is recognised at every level.
Why AMSIO Matters for Your Child
Five reasons parents across 15+ countries choose AMSIO for their children.
International Benchmark
AMSIO shows you exactly where your child stands against peers in 15+ countries — not just within their class or school, but on a genuinely global stage.
Genuine Thinking Skills
Every question is designed to assess reasoning and problem-solving — not textbook recall. Participating builds intellectual confidence that lasts well beyond the exam.
Recognised at Every Level
Every participant receives meaningful feedback and an achievement certificate. Whether your child earns Gold or a Certificate of Participation, their effort is formally recognised.
A Transformative Experience
Top performers who advance to the Global Round gain an international experience — competing alongside exceptional young minds from across the world.
Strengthens University Applications
International olympiad achievement is valued by universities worldwide. An AMSIO certificate demonstrates academic ambition and cross-border performance.
Your Child's Journey
From first registration to a potential Global Round appearance, here is the full path.
Registration Through School
Your child's school registers them for AMSIO. Parents do not need to register directly — the school handles all enrolment and communicates dates and details.
Round 1 — State Qualifier
The exam takes place at school during a regular school day. No travel required. Your child sits the paper in their usual exam environment with familiar proctors.
Results & Achievement Certificate
Results are released within a few weeks. Every participant receives an official AMSIO Achievement Certificate reflecting their tier — Gold, Silver, Bronze, or Certificate of Participation.
Round 2 — National Finals
Top performers from Round 1 are invited to sit a more advanced paper. This round is more selective and competitive, identifying the strongest performers in each country.
Global Round — International Finals
The highest achievers in each country are selected to represent their nation at the Global Round in the United States. This is a full international competition and cultural event.

FAQs for Parents
Answers to the questions parents ask most often.
Does it cost anything for my child to participate?
Fees vary by country and are collected through the school. Contact your school coordinator for the exact participation fee in your country. The fee covers exam delivery, marking, and certification.
How should my child prepare?
AMSIO questions are designed to assess thinking — not memorisation. The best preparation is strong foundational understanding of the subject and regular practice of reasoning-style problems. We publish sample papers on the AMSIO website that give an accurate sense of the format and difficulty.
What subject should my child enter?
Your child can enter any of the four subjects — Mathematics, Science, Language, or Computational Intelligence — subject to their school's offering. Many students enter more than one subject. Each subject is independently assessed.
What language are the papers in?
Mathematics, Science, and CI papers are available in English. The Language subject assesses English and Chinese comprehension. All other subjects use English as the medium of instruction.
If my child qualifies for the Global Round, do we need to arrange travel ourselves?
The National Partner in your country manages Global Round logistics, including delegation coordination. Travel and accommodation arrangements will be communicated directly through them. AMSIO HQ provides detailed guidance to all national delegations.
What happens if my child cannot sit the exam on the scheduled day?
Absence policies are managed at school level. Contact your school coordinator as early as possible if your child is unwell or unavailable. Deferrals are subject to the national exam schedule and are not guaranteed.
Will my child receive results if they do not qualify for Round 2?
Yes. Every participant receives their individual result and an official Achievement Certificate regardless of whether they advance to Round 2. Scores and percentile feedback are included to help you understand your child's performance.
What does the Global Round experience involve?
The Global Round is an approximately one-week international event featuring individual assessments, an awards ceremony, cultural exchange activities, STEM workshops, and a city tour. It brings together top student achievers from all participating countries. Full details are shared with qualifying families well in advance.
